Reflection on This Week's Learning Journey
Developing Academic Skills
This week, I spent a lot of time developing my academic skills and exploring the provided materials. Initially, I felt bogged down with the referencing applications, as I went through multiple tools before finally choosing Endnote 21. After adding the extensions in Chrome and Word, I felt I had more direction. I can now easily manage citations and organise my references. Additionally, I explored MURAL alternatives and decided on Freeform by Apple. These tools feel like the best options for my needs so far.
Enhancing Study Techniques
Once I had my referencing system sorted, I focused on the readings again, which became much easier to tackle. I also discovered Word’s “Dictate” feature, which has been incredibly helpful. While listening to podcasts, I can now quickly take verbal notes, enabling me to process information faster and more efficiently.
Insights from Thursday’s Tutorial
Thursday’s tutorial encouraged me to deeply reflect on my personal research and the direction of my work. I had the opportunity to watch Lee Miller’s film in Singapore and listen to a podcast featuring an interview with her granddaughter. The podcast provided fascinating context, including how fashion was approached during the rationing period of World War II. Designers of the time innovated by making utility clothing both functional and aesthetically appealing. The discussion also explored the role of marketing campaigns in encouraging the adoption of these new looks. This has inspired me to delve deeper into fashion and marketing during this period, particularly how communities adapted to wartime austerity.
Exploring the Singapore 2030 Green Plan
I plan to explore the Singapore 2030 Green Plan and key areas it focuses on. During our trip to Dubai for New Year’s, we spent a day at the Museum of the Future, which was incredibly inspiring. I intend to revisit the photos I took there for ideas, particularly from their exhibits on seed harvesting, DNA storage of plants and animals, innovative technologies, and approaches to well-being. These themes resonated with me and could provide valuable insights for Module One.
Reflecting on Museums and History
One of my favourite places to visit in London is the V&A Museum, so it was disheartening to learn more this week about the darker history of museums. I plan to dedicate some time to learning more about colonialism and imperialism to better understand their impact and legacy.
Design Journeys and Project Context
I finished reading Design Journeys by Kate Fletcher this week and intend to write up notes within the context of this project. The book has provided valuable insights that I hope to integrate into my research and reflections.
Reflection and Moving Forward
Reflecting on my learning journey so far, I realise there’s much I can revisit and refine. To balance this process and clear my mind, I also plan to spend more time outdoors with the dogs, using these moments as opportunities for reflection and fresh perspectives.

Final Thoughts
This week, I feel the course has pushed me to strengthen my critical thinking and research methodologies. I’ve also begun to frame my ideas differently, challenging myself to approach problems more creatively. I’m excited to see where this journey will take me.
