April Round-Up: Finding Joy in Rest, Home Life, and Renewal

From Beach Adventures to Slow Days at Home

April arrived with sunshine, salt water, and much-needed space to breathe. The first 10 days were spent in Thailand on a family holiday in beautiful Phuket, our favourite beachside escape. We long boarded along the coast, snorkelled with tropical fish, and played in the waves like children. A day trip to Banana Beach was a highlight. As we floated in the turquoise sea, watermelon in hand, my daughter giggled as the fish came right up to us, eager for a taste.

A Short Retreat for the Soul

After my family flew home, I lingered a little longer. I checked into a yoga retreat, three days of sound baths, outdoor yoga, and calming my nervous system. Honestly, it didn’t feel long enough. The mum guilt crept in, whispering that I hadn’t earned this time for myself. But somewhere between the singing bowls and the sunrise meditations, I found a softness. A reminder that rest, too, is part of the work.

Wrapping Up My First Master's Module

Returning to Singapore meant diving headfirst into my studies. I had just four days to finalise and submit the first module of my Master’s in Fashion Sustainability. I gave it every bit of focus, every thought, every reflection. Now I wait and hope for a good outcome.

Switching Gears: Mum Mode Activated

With my studies submitted and our helper on her annual trip home to the Philippines, I stepped fully into mum mode. My school was on a six-week break, and the house felt full of baking smells, dog walks, slow mornings, and time with my children. It reminded me how much joy there is in the everyday. No deadlines, no distractions. Just us.

A Small Relief

Lastly, some good news from the UK: our letting agent found a tenant for our house. By the end of May, it’ll be leased for a year lightening the financial load just a little, and giving us more room to breathe.
