February Reflections – Fashion, Family & Fresh Air

February has been a month of movement, creativity, and connection. As the seasons subtly shift, so too does the energy in my work and personal life. From diving deeper into sustainable fashion to immersing myself in community activities and nature’s simple joys, this month has been a well-rounded dance of purpose and play.

Sustainability, Studies & Creative Direction

My work in fashion sustainability continues to evolve. This month, I delved further into my master’s program, refining my research and understanding of the global landscape of sustainable fashion. A significant focus has been on regenerative design—rethinking how we create and use materials in a way that replenishes rather than depletes. Exploring how regenerative practices can be embedded within fashion, from fibre cultivation to end-of-life solutions, has been an enlightening process.

I have also been analysing circular business models, identifying strategies that brands can adopt to reduce waste and improve longevity in their designs. This ties closely with my exploration of fibreshed systems, looking at how localized production networks can drive a more resilient and environmentally responsible fashion industry. These insights are not just theoretical—they are shaping the way I envision Wilde Hippi’s future impact.

Alongside this, I have been engaging in 'What If' scenarios around our local community, challenging the way we think about sustainable fashion and circular solutions at a grassroots level. This exploration has been inspiring—imagining how businesses, creatives, and consumers can work together to redefine fashion’s role within our neighbourhoods.

At the same time, I’ve been slowly building up content on Wilde Hippi website, hoping to start building up traffic and ranking organically for my keywords. The aim to reaffirming the brand’s ethos of gentle activism through educational outreach, slow fashion and mindful living. Hoping in march to launch the next phase of the website.

Climate Fresk & Community Engagement

Another highlight of February was attending Climate Fresk at school, an interactive workshop that deepened my understanding of climate science and the urgent need for systemic change. Engaging with other participants, discussing the interconnectedness of fashion, economy, and climate, and brainstorming solutions made me even more committed to pushing forward with education and action within my work. Community Fair 2025 – Thank You!

February also brought a beautiful opportunity to give back. I volunteered at my children’s community fair through a parent-child service initiative, which was a heartwarming reminder of how small actions can create meaningful connections. Seeing the joy and engagement from both parents and children reinforced my belief in the power of community and collective effort. It was refreshing to step away from work and immerse myself in something so rooted in the present.

A huge thank you to our incredible community for making the UWCSEA 2025 Community Fair a success! With over $57,000 raised, we are driving real impact through our Global Concerns partners.

Your contributions have:

Provided clean water to communities in Eswatini

Supported education for children in Cambodia, Indonesia, Kenya, Nepal, Tanzania & Malaysia

Funded a sun bear enclosure for rescued cubs

Expanded organic farms in Cambodia & Indonesia

Built homes in Guatemala & a youth centre in Brazil

Helped conserve turtles on Tioman Island

Supported maternal healthcare in Indonesia

The Community Fair is more than fundraising—it’s a celebration of impact, awareness, and global citizenship. Thank you for being part of this journey! 🌍✨

Creative Learning & Digital Exploration

This month, I also completed a digital painting class at NAFA using Procreate and a video editing course using Premiere Pro. Both experiences have been incredibly enriching, expanding my creative toolkit and allowing me to explore new mediums of expression. I’m excited to incorporate these skills into my work and hopefully share some of my creations soon through Wilde Hippi. Exploring digital artistry and visual storytelling feels like a natural extension of my sustainable fashion journey, opening up new possibilities for communication and engagement.

Movement & Mindfulness

In between my studies, I managed to maintain a consistent daily yoga and pilates practice, which has been a grounding force amidst my busy schedule. Taking time for mindful movement has helped me stay centred, energised, and focused, reinforcing the importance of balance in both work and creativity. Prioritising well-being is just as essential as pursuing my passions, and this practice has been a reminder to stay present and connected to my body and mind.

Beach Days, Trekking & House Dreams

The weather is finally clearing up, making way for much-needed outdoor adventures. With the sunshine back, i joined my schools community walking club for a trek around Labrador Park on the west coast. Its funny how energy works, i was so nervous about going and then met the co-founders of Magic Bus and talked for 2 hours on all topics i'm so passionate about. Hopefully a new friend made.

We took our dogs to the beach for a swim, watching them revel in the saltwater and sand. These moments—free from schedules and screens—are reminders of the importance of simplicity and presence.

On the home front, decoration is now in full swing for our house in the UK. The process of curating and creating a space that feels like home is deeply fulfilling. Every choice, from colour palettes to textures, is an extension of personal identity and values. Much like slow fashion, home design should be intentional, sustainable, and a reflection of the stories we carry.

Looking Ahead

As February winds down, I look forward to what March will bring—new lessons, creative breakthroughs, and hopefully, more time outdoors. If this month has taught me anything, it’s the importance of balance. Work and creativity must be complemented by community and nature. That’s the essence of Wilde Hippi—a life well-lived, a journey well-travelled.

Until next time, stay wild, stay free.

With gratitude,
Tala
