Wilde Hippi: My Journey to Creating a Purposeful Brand

Have you ever felt like your life’s journey was gently nudging you towards something different ? That’s how Wilde Hippi began—a dream born out of lived experiences, love for textiles, and an unshakable belief that we can do better for our planet and ourselves.
This brand isn’t just a business—it’s a reflection of my story, a culmination of moments that pushed me to create something meaningful.

Where It All Began: A Love for Textiles

My journey into textiles started long before Wilde Hippi came to life. I’ve spent decades in the fashion world, weaving my way through its highs and lows. From sourcing beautiful fabrics in bustling markets to witnessing the challenges of production in factories, textiles became more than materials to me—they became stories.

Each thread carried a history, a culture, a hand that touched it. And while I loved the craft, I couldn’t ignore the impact: the environmental cost, the waste, and the people often overlooked in the process.
I asked myself: How can I do better? How can I combine my passion for textiles with a purpose that uplifts communities and the planet?

A Turning Point

After 25 years in the fashion industry, I found myself at a crossroads. My journey has taken me to some of the most vibrant and creative corners of the industry, but over time, the glitter began to fade. What once felt inspiring started to feel hollow as I witnessed the harsh realities beneath the surface—overproduction, waste, exploitation, and a relentless pace that left little room for reflection. I had poured so much of myself into this world, only to feel disconnected from the values I held dear. That’s when the seed for Wilde Hippi  was planted—a brand built on the belief that fashion could be slower, kinder, and more meaningful.

Crafting as Self-Care

When life got overwhelming—whether it was navigating the demands of parenting or the complexities of work—I found solace in crafting. There’s something meditative about stitching fabric, watching colours bloom in a natural dye bath, or transforming an old garment into something new.
Crafting became my therapy. It wasn’t just about making something beautiful; it was about slowing down, connecting with my hands, and feeling grounded.
I wanted to share this joy with others, especially in a world that’s constantly rushing. Crafting can be a form of self-care, a way to quiet the mind and nurture creativity.

The Birth of Wilde Hippi

When I finally sat down to dream up Wilde Hippi, I knew it had to be more than just a sustainable fashion brand. I wanted it to be a space for community, learning, and activism. A place where people could reconnect with their creativity, feel empowered to live sustainably, and join a movement for a better textile economy.
Here’s what Wilde Hippi By Tala stands for:
  • Craftsmanship with Purpose: Honouring the art of textiles while reimagining waste as opportunity.
  • Honouring the art of textiles while reimagining waste as opportunity.
  • Sustainability at Heart: From natural dyes to upcycled designs, every piece tells a story of care for the planet.
  • Community and Connection: Bringing together eco-conscious makers, parents, and change-makers to learn, create, and grow.

Why This Matters

Starting this brand wasn’t just about filling a gap in the market—it was about filling a gap in my soul. I wanted to create something that aligned with my values and gave back to the world in meaningful ways.
I believe we’re all capable of small acts of change that ripple outward. Maybe it’s learning how to repair a favourite garment, dyeing fabric with plants from your garden, or gifting something handmade to someone you love.
Through Wilde Hippi, I hope to inspire you to see the beauty in slow living, the joy in crafting, and the power of choosing sustainability—one stitch, one dye bath, one conversation at a time.
